The year 2020 was the year of awful circumstances the world has confronted. The whole year was leapfrogged by Coronavirus. We as a whole have been placed into a situation which no one has ever envisioned and everything was going on way excessively fast. The one-week lockdown continued for quite a long time and individuals couldn’t simply do anything apart from remaining within the walls, protecting themselves from the deadly infection.

Despite the whole world being in a pandemic, businesses didn’t take a break. India has equally unfolded many different opportunities that were new for all of us. As social distancing was in the major precaution list, people remain distanced from many things hence, the local business got affected. Many sectors opt for Work from Home which kept the heart of the business alive and employees working harder kept it pumping.

Where the essentials were still needed, India finally picked the digital route. Businesses across different industries took a turn to serve the people digitally. Although it was a known fact that the stance of life as we know it was to be changed forever, we did make it a point to adapt and thrive.

India’s Digital position before Pandemic

If we look at India’s journey of going digital, it was started early when the Prime Minister of India, Mr. Narendra Modi, stood up with the Digital India Campaign in 2015.

Digital India is the Government of India’s signature initiative with the vision of transforming India into a knowledge-based, digitally empowered community. India was on its way to start the Digital revolution and was making changes in the world.

In almost every area of life, the digital reset of the Indian economy is witnessed. Nearly every Indian now has the Aadhar Identification Number digitally authenticated, linked to a bank account and mobile phone. So, India was also boosting digitally before the pandemic. People knew about digital services but residents were still far behind when using them. Many also did not know about the method of e-payment or the app, which can ease their lives.

As the pandemic hit, India was already on a digital trajectory with one of the largest volumes of digital transactions in the world and the use of contact-less digital technology was pushed further. But because of the pandemic, online services saw a boom, and it then became a necessity to use digital services. This automatically leads to every individual, local business to adapt to digital services and the result was the rise of Digital India. Today, every small vendor, shopkeeper, worker has learned and has the access to digital services.

Therefore, before the pandemic, no India never lacked digitally, but yes, it certainly gave a nudge to all the services to reach every corner of the country.

The NEW Normal

The new normal implied when unlock initiated after pandemic and things were pretty much changed when people were finally allowed to venture out of their abodes. Mask, sanitizers, and social distancing were the three basic rules to follow and it was quite hard for people to accept and enforce them. It has brought more opportunities to online businesses and unlocked new doors to generate work. The fact is that the pandemic was not short-term at all, and these modern technology-driven activities are now part of the new standard.

Pandemic give a boost to Digital Services

The pandemic has changed the way of business. After the Covid-19 crisis, businesses were more into providing digital services. Several organizations had not only built digital strategies but implemented them before the pandemic and are now in a position to expand further.

To fill the holes left by compulsory shutdowns and steps of social distancing, digitization has stepped in. We will have no way to work, shop, get essentials, and more without digital resources and technologies.

The use of technology decentralizes decision-making, bridging communities around cities, and improved the overall digital experience. These creative technologies have an impact across different spheres of life using technology and digital resources, be it livelihoods, access to services, or education. Organizations must adapt to these behavioral changes and meet changing customer needs to remain competitive.

Wrapping Up!

Digital India has now evolved and unstoppable, pandemic has played a critical role to put this across.

The pandemic of COVID-19 has had enormous consequences to the world and work but the role of technology was immense. In an unparalleled and time-pressured way, companies have been pushed into the rapid digital adoption of technology and ‘tech-driven’ activities.

It is important to re-imagine any digital transformation road map that doesn’t deliver value at every phase. With digital solutions front and center, the key is to continue exploring and innovating. Businesses will come out bigger, more flexible, and more customer-centric than ever with the correct approach.

Therefore, the power of Digital change in India is strong and invincible even after the pandemic.
